Installation of Debian 2.1
In order to begin the installation we must create the floppy disks of boot, to me the floppy disks standard have created problems, therefore I have used the floppy disks tecra, than to the action of the boot less they are taken care of in examining the hardware.

Partition Information

Device Boot     Start     End     Blocks      Id     System
/dev/hda1             1     198     1590403+      6     DOS 16-bit>-32M
/dev/hda2         199     205         56227+    82    linux swap
/dev/hda3         206     365     1205200      83    linux native (RedHat)
/dev/hda4         366     526     1293232+    83    linux native (Debian)

The HardDisk has been divided in 4 parts, using fips has maintained the predefined installation of win98, the others three accommodates the partition of swap, that one Debian and one RedHat.
Once predisposed the partition /dev/hda4 (Debian), begin the installation, I have installed the packet base mounting the partition win where i download the file base2_1.tgz, and giving the distance where found it. Ended the installation of the packet base, set up the password of root and created a customer, me the login is introduced.
I setup the dselect why, through apt, drainages via ftp the type of installation from chosen me, Admin, the advantage is that this point I would have easily to be dawned to the stable version of the Debian. The first one dselect I have launch it without to select or to deselect packets, apt asks the URL for the situated ftp from which unloading, for the type www.xx.com/debian, and it tries the main to them, the contrib, and non-free for non-US the position it is not standard and this creates some problem.
Of the Admin configuration I have cancelled not useful emacs, python and other programs. I have installed like webserver Roxen, and as server ftp wu-ftp the reason for which I install of the server on a Laptop one is why not?

MOUSE (GPM)
The mouse it depends on the gpm, with gpmconfig find the values necessary in order to determine the type of mouse, the reference file is /etc/gpm.conf.
My gpm.conf:
            device=/dev/psaux
            responsiveness=
            type=ps2
            append=""

XFree86 3.3.3
The card video is installed is a S3VirgeMX selects the SGVA whose given important they are: the horizontal refresh rates to are 31.5 - 48.5, for vertical refresh 50-100. This configuration allows me launch X with the command: startx -- - bpp 24.
Memory of having a monitor DSTN, I do not know this as it influences in the configuration.
The LCD Display is supported.
My XF86Config

PCMCIA
for the pcmcia Ethernet card, a Hamlet 10 Mbits, with kernel the 2.0.36 enough the pcmcia-cs-3.0.5 while if it is had intention to pass to the kernel 2.2.x is NECESSARY to use the pcmcia-cs-3.1.0. The card must be inserted to the action of the boot, otherwise jams, in order to avoid this disadvantage is necessary to edit the rc2 and to move Sxxpcmcia in Kxxpcmcia, so that the probe does not leave in automatic rifle. If you had Sxxpcmcia on rc2 once login in the system and launch cardctl insert the support of network is guaranteed. If you had Kxxpcmcia you must run /etc/init.d/pcmcia and after launch cardctl insert.

            The most important lines of my /etc/init.d/pcmcia.:
            My /etc/pcmcia/network.opts.
            My /etc/pcmcia/config.opts.

MODEM
The modem in equipment to this wonderful one laptop it is a win modem, therefore without hope of being piloted they give Linux

APM
Apm is supported if shaped in the kernel already from kernel 2.0.36.

Once set up the system:
                                        - Floppy drive works
                                        - CD-ROM works (/dev/hdc)
                                        - Modem doesn't work (winmodem)
                                        - The SVGA is fully supported by X-Window
                                        - The Sound Card works with K. 2.2.x
                                        - Mouse works

I have not tried the IrDA

On the laptop I have installed also RedHat but already many persons have described the easy installation of this Linux system.
The only thing to signal that I think of sure importance is that the update from 5.2 to 6 has created no type of problem.
