Linux on the Acer TravelMate 312T
I wrote a brief review of setting up Linux
on the Acer TravelMate 312T. In a nutshell:
- Floppy drive works

CD-ROM works with newer kernels (I had a look at 2.2.12).
A little patch is needed for older kernels (I tested it
on kernel 2.0.34)
- Modem doesn't work
- The VGA is fully supported by X-Window
- The sound card works with kernel 2.2.1 (still can't record audio)
The files
- Review
- An HTML file with everything you need to operate Linux on
the notebook. Any feedback will be greately apreciated.
Use obviously at your own risk.
- XF86Config
- XFree86 3.3.3.1 configuration file. Check the keyboard setting for
your model, mine is Italian.
- .config
- Configuration file for kernel 2.0.34.
- isapnp.conf
- Configuration file for isapnp, to initialize Pnp
devices in the TravelMate and properly assign resources.
- config.opts
- Configuration file for PCMCIA Card Services.
- Output of the X-server
- The text displayed by the X-server when it starts, whith
all the info it gets from the display adapter.
- Output of dmesg command
- Hardware checklist done by the kernel at startup. BogoMIPS
included!
- The XF86_SVGA binary
- This is the compiled binary of the Super VGA server
downloaded from ftp.xfree86.org. It is version 3.3.3.1
compiled for Linux ix86 with glibc (i.e. libc6). Don't
use it if you are running libc5.
